Grading FAQs

Grading & Dirt Work Questions

Why is proper grading critical before house foundation construction?+

Proper grading ensures that ground slope directs water away from your building's foundation. Inadequate grading causes standing water, soil expansion, and eventual foundation shifting or crawlspace rot, costing thousands in repairs.

What type of fill dirt is used for building house pads in Mississippi?+

We import high-density red clay fill dirt for building structural pads. Clay is excellent because it can be heavily compacted, creating a firm, load-bearing base that won't settle or wash away under concrete slabs.

How do you handle expansive Yazoo Clay when building house pads in Central Mississippi?+

Yazoo Clay is highly expansive, swelling when wet and shrinking when dry. When building structural house pads, we undercut the active clay layers (usually 2 to 4 feet deep) and replace it with stable select sandy-loam fill dirt, compacted to 95% standard proctor density, preventing future foundation shifting.

Can you fix standing water and yard drainage problems on my property?+

Yes. Central MS soils (like Yazoo Clay) can trap water easily. We design and excavate custom drainage systems, including swales, French drains, and culverts, grading the property to direct surface runoff safely to natural exit points.
